Bonobos are humans’ closest animal relative: most famous for their promiscuous sex-lives and matriarchal society, they are less well known for their prosocial food-sharing behaviour. When bonobos have surplus food they don’t waste it or hoard it: they proactively find others to share it with. Most intriguing, they select strangers in preference over friends. Essentially they turn surplus food into social capital and make new friends.
Be a Bonobo for a day and join us for this one off food experience, eat some delicious food otherwise destined for the bin, and make lots of new friends along the way.
Tristram Stuart is a celebrated food waste activist, while Julia Sironi works with the wonderful Fruitful Abundance, based in Northamptonshire, who rescue 3 tonnes of food destined for landfill each week.
