The Power of Dance to Transcend and Heal the Planet with Helene Su
After decades of destructive behaviour wherein we’ve been pumping chemicals and plastics into the atmosphere and oceans, decemating forests, reaping natural resources, pushing over a million species to the brink of extinction, the past year has given the planet a welcome break as we’ve been forced to stay in one place by the pandemic.
Ancient cultures recognise the nature of interconnectedness. In native American cosmology there is a core commitment to move from a profane way of life in which we degrade our environment, to a sacred way of life in which we honour and preserve it.
At the same time, modern quantum physics reveals that the universe is an integration of interdependent energy fields, and the flow of information in a quantum universe is holistic.
Our bodies are part of ecology, we co-evolved with the planet – we are nature, and as such it is our responsibility to preserve it.
One profound way to initiate change is through us, through our physiology and the power of the body mind connection to change our way of thinking and being. We can do this through the power of dance.
When we dance we move to release our physical and mental blockages. Using our bodies as a gateway we drop from trying to understand through the intellect, to knowing through the heart, which results in a transformative shift.
Dance is a transpersonal experience, and according to Stanislof Grof, a founder of Transpersonal Psychology, “transpersonal experiences can lead you to connect with something greater than the human realm. All of the living world, including animals and plants, and even rocks and minerals, may be experienced as part of your family”.
As a shamanic practice it can radically affect us on a spirit and soul level. We can experience big changes in perspective and go deep to question the important questions of our time.
Through dance, not only do we become one on the dance floor, we can resonate with the frequencies of the earth to experience unity. We have compassion for others, develop a richer connection to nature and for the earth. In fact, scientists at Heart Math Institute have been creating experiments for intentionally tracking changes in human consciousness and measuring fluctuations in the planetary field. They have also been studying the electrical activity of trees and their relationship with humans’ emotional states.
Through the dance we can tune into our frequencies to also resonate with those of the plants and trees around us, we can leave this area resonating with our hearts, taking care of the beautiful land that we’re on and becoming at one with the surroundings.
Helene will be talking in the Mind tent about the power of dance, so head on down to swot up before cutting some shapes on the forest floor.
