MBS Mondays – Week 11

MIND : Beyond the matrix : Is this reality we live in an illusion? with Ann Mathie

Is there a way out of this mind matrix?

In this talk, Ann Mathie will be looking at what the Buddha discovered under the Bodhi tree which led to his radical freedom from suffering. We will explore the different types of deep ecstatic absorption or Jhanic states, and how these states are experienced in the mind-body based on the direct experience of long-term meditators and Buddhist monks. We will look at how the Buddhas’ different states of absorption lead to insight into the workings of this mind matrix.

Exploring the metaphysics of the reality we live in and the relationship between mind and matter in the Buddhist context, based on Abhidharma manuscripts, we will look at techniques of freedom discovered by the Buddha in detail based on the Pali Canon and early Buddhist literature. We will examine the importance of human physiology with regards to awakening and how preserving its natural state is a key to greater awareness.

Ann Mathie has completed a Masters in the Traditions of Yoga and Meditation at SOAS, where she was taught by leading scholars in the fields of Buddhism and Yoga. Her research focuses on the phenomenology of liberation through Buddhist and Yogic practices. She also studies Sanskrit to gain a closer understanding of scripture.

As a practitioner, a researcher and a school teacher she brings complex theories of metaphysics in Buddhist and Tantric doctrine into clear comprehension to frame practice and experience for everyone.

Ann has been practising yoga and meditation for the past 20 years, exploring practices in the Tantric, Yogic and Buddhist milieu, working at bridging the gap between the knowledge produced by the insights of mediation masters throughout history, and our current exploration in cutting edge consciousness theory.

MBS Mondays – Week 10

Nurturing Eco-Consciousness Through Plant Medicines

Exploration of how plant and fungal psychedelics can help reconnect with nature, reduce burnout among activists, balance out eco-existential dread and depression, give insight into creative problem solving ecological issues and design and more…

Dr David Luke is Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Greenwich. His research focuses on transpersonal experiences, anomalous phenomena and altered states of consciousness, especially via psychedelics, having published more than 100 academic papers in this area, including ten books, most recently Otherworlds: Psychedelics and Exceptional Human Experience (2nd ed., 2019). When he is not running clinical drug trials with LSD, conducting DMT field experiments or observing apparent weather control with Mexican shamans he directs the Ecology, Cosmos and Consciousness salon and is a cofounder and director of Breaking Convention: International Conference on Psychedelic Consciousness. Dave regularly researches, teaches and writes about ecopsychology, shamanism and psychedelics. He lives in the woods, and talks to trees, and other species.

Dave has been a regular at Noisily for the last few years, giving talks and working at PsyCareUK.

MBS Mondays – Week 9

Medicine at your Feet with Hetty Nutbeem in the SOUL tent (and beyond).

Hetty has been attending Noisily for several years now, and it has remained her favourite event. Her passion for the festival inspired her to get involved in Mind Body and Soul, sharing her knowledge and talents through the mediums circus skills and herbal medicine.

This workshop will look at connecting with nature through the medicinal plants which grow all around us. Learning about the properties of four or five common plants in the UK and how they can help us, participants will learn how to use the plants and how to easily make your own medicine. You’ll then put your theory into practice, heading out on a walk around the estate to identify some of the plants.

MBS Mondays – Week 8

Circus Playshops with Hetty Nutbeem in the BODY Tent

Hetty has been attending Noisily for several years now, and it has remained her favourite event. Her passion for the festival inspired her to get involved in Mind Body and Soul, sharing her knowledge and talents through the mediums circus skills and herbal medicine.

Circus Playshops invite participants to learn the skills of hula hooping, poi spinning, diablo juggling and contact staff. These skills encourage focus in the mind, leading to a state of meditation and clarity. Sounds great to us!

These modalities of movement have been practiced in various forms for millennia in tribal cultures across the world, and the sessions are well attended and loads of fun for everybody involved.

MBS Mondays – Week 7

SOUL on Friday

Wild Journeying: Learning the Art of Shamanic Meditation with Soizic Loup.

We are so excited to be welcoming Soizic into the Mind Body Soul family this year. Of Tunisian, Guadeloupean, Polish and Middle Eastern descent, she draws from the ancient power, wisdom and stories of her lineage and has trained all over the world. Collaborating with indigenous shamans, transformational teachers & queer healers, she is looking forward to sharing these experiences and incorporating them into her unique blend of healing & energy work.

Soizic will be offering her workshop ‘Wild Journeying: Learning the Art of Shamanic Meditation’ – where you will be invited to connect directly with spirit guides, insights from the natural landscapes and even your future Self.

It promises to be a powerful and transformative experience, helping participants really let go of what no longer serves them, alongside seeding beautiful insights on their relationships with themselves, others and our surrounding natural world.

Meditation doesn’t need to be hard or exclusive. We’ll use simple but really efficient techniques (which take into account the realities of neuroscience, embodiment practice, breathwork and sound therapy) to take ourselves into a step of release and relaxation, when we become more suggestible and our minds more malleable. From that place of ease, we’ll use the traditionally shamanic practice of Journeying, a form of meditation that fully engages the senses and our imagination. This way, we tap into the raw power of our creativity rather than being limited by the mind, and go journey into strange lands to find allies, answers to our questions (or just discover new ones we should be asking), and planting seeds for what we’d like to grow.

No previous experience is needed.

MBS Mondays – Week 3

Yoga Nidra with Jess Weaver from The Shanti Space

We have fresh content incoming from The Shanti Space, and other Noisily practitioners this year. Stay tuned to our MBS Monday’s for more healing practices to nourish the mind, body and soul.

Now, take time for a gentle Yoga Nidra, a body scan practice to cultivate deep rest for your mind and nervous system.

Research suggests that people who practice the body scan for longer, such as a few days a week, reap more benefits from this practice such as emotional self-regulation—with reduced levels of depression, stress, and anxiety—and an increase in mood, quality of life, and well-being.

The body scan can be performed while lying down, sitting, or in other postures. So get yourself cosy, carve out some time for self-nourishment and listen to this beautiful guided meditation.
